Theo Walcott: England won't play for point in crucial Kiev qualifier
The Arsenal speedster knows the hosts will be confident and says it is far too risky to play for a point in Ukraine
Theo Walcott promises England will be going all-out to win in Ukraine.
England boss Roy Hodgson is desperate to avoid defeat as even a draw will leave them well placed in Group H.
But
Walcott argues it is risky to play for a point and reckons England’s
pace could be crucial in trying to hit Ukraine on the counter-attack.
The
Arsenal winger said: “We always go into games trying to win them. We
don’t want to go out there and try to get a draw. That’s when we could
be caught on the break. We have a lot of pace in this team.
“They have to come at us and that could work in our favour.”
Walcott
scored in Kiev when England beat Sweden in Euro 2012 but knows Ukraine
are full of confidence after they thrashed San Marino 9-0 on Friday.
He added: “It’s going to be really nice looking for that goal again and I go there feeling very confident, as do the team.
“It
was a great occasion scoring in Kiev but I need to concentrate on
getting the points now. After those nine goals, Ukraine will go into the
match on a positive note.”
