New York: Monday marks the 37th occasion when two of the men’s tennis hottest properties Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic draw swords against each other. The duo has already produced some scintillating performance in the ongoing US Open on their way to the title showdown.

Statistically, in the 36 clashes between the world’s top two tennis players so far, Rafa leads 21-15 and has also won five of the last six meetings with Nole.

They have already clashed in a Grand Slam tournament (French Open) this year in which Nadal emerged as the winner in a five-set semifinal encounter.

Both have tasted success at the Flushing Meadows once - Nadal in 2010 and Djokovic in 2011. Interestingly, they had faced each other on both the occasions.

Rafa is yet to be defeated on hard courts this season and his record for the year 2013 stands at 22-0. One should not forget the fact that the Spaniard has always said that this particular surface is the one he finds to be the most difficult.

A look at Nadal’s road to final at the 2013 US Open:

• SF: bt Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-6(1), 6-2

• QF: bt Tommy Robredo 6-0, 6-2, 6-2

• 4th round: bt Phillip Kohlschreiber 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-1

• 3rd round: bt Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-3, 6-3

• 2nd round: bt R.D. Da Silva 6-2, 6-1, 6-0

• 1st round: bt Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 --------------------- ZEENEWS.com
