Live updates on Mesut Ozil and Demba Ba:
10:42 pm
So Emiliano Viviano and Mesut Ozil deals confirmed, but Ba won't be
going to the Emirates. It turned out to be a pretty decent summer for
the Gunners in the end, with Ozil probably the biggest name to come into
the Premier League this summer.
Now let's get the international break out of the way so that we can see him in action.
10:31 pm
Read our man John Cross's full report on the Mesut Ozil deal by clicking here.
Submit your suggested nicknames for Ozil to @MirrorFootball.
10:26 pm
Mesut Ozil has released a statement to say:
"I'm looking forward to my future in the Premier League and at Arsenal."
10:20 pm
Right that's it. OZIL IS A GOONER!
I'd be nervous if I didn't know that Mesut Ozil was done. But it is. So I'm not. #donedeal
— John Cross (@johncrossmirror) September 2, 2013
Ozil has signed on the dotted line, put pen to paper, he is coming to the Premier League.
10:08 pm
We are now into the final hour of the summer 2013 transfer window.
Mesut Ozil is not (yet) an Arsenal player.
German
productivity and efficiency rests entirely on getting an early night
and a good night's sleep, so surely it's just a matter of time now, he
won't want to stay up past 11pm.
Our sources are telling us that it is done, but we haven't had confirmation from either Real Madrid or Arsenal.
Even
at this late stage, there is still the possibility it could go wrong,
it must have been a long day for everyone involved in these
negotiations.
Fingers crossed through, we all want to see someone of Ozil's calibre in the Premier League.

Darren Lewis
Darren Lewis AKA El Dazzler deciphers the Chelsea unwanted striker situation madness:
"Fascinating story behind the Demba Ba/Lukaku deals.
"Chelsea
had no intention of allowing Lukaku to leave. But Ba rejected the
interest from every club that wanted to take him point blank other than
Arsenal. That was the only place he wanted to go.
"Mourinho not
happy and absolutely would not sanction the move to Arsenal. So
reluctantly he began to consider loan deals for Lukaku as he didn't want
four strikers.
"He then concluded a loan deal with Everton for Lukaku to go there.
"But
Lukaku refused and said the only place he wanted to go was West Brom.
So, again, reluctantly, Chelsea had no choice but to let him go there.
"Lukaku
at no stage this evening had any other intention but to go back to West
Brom once it became clear Chelsea were going to consider loaning him."
Cheers Dazzler, we were beginning to wonder what was going on over at Stamford Bridge.
9:22 pm
We're still waiting on updates on Ozil. Our man John Cross is like a
news hound at the moment, trying to get to the bottom of it all.
Don't
lose faith Arsenal fans, it might seem like it's all falling apart at
the last minute, but there is nothing to suggest that the deal isn't
going through.
8:53 pm
John Cross
Here's the full scoop on the Demba Ba rejection from John Cross:
"Chelsea have blocked Demba Ba's proposed season-long loan to Arsenal - because they see Arsene Wenger's men as title rivals.
"Arsenal
were keen to sign Ba, offered Chelsea a £1.5m loan fee and were hopeful
of signing the striker as back-up for Olivier Giroud.
"But
Chelsea held out for £3m and made it clear they ultimately preferred him
to go elsewhere rather than Arsenal. West Ham and Napoli were also
interested.
"However, Chelsea have decided to keep Ba and that
means Arsenal are left short of striking options. Nicklas Bendtner is
likely ro stay but it's hard to see him playing for Arsenal again, such
has been his fall from grace at the club."
8:47 pm
Arsenal are in it for the long run with Ozil. They're reportedly
after the German on a contract for at least five years, and the Real
Madrid player is currently mulling it over.
He's in a very weird position right now. What does he do if it doesn't go through?
8:46 pm
While we're waiting for something to happen, ANYTHING, at the
Emirates. Here's some news from Everton from our own David Maddock:
"It seems as though Everton have concluded a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku on loan.
"They
will pay a £3m fee, and take the Belgian international striker for a
year, and while there is no provision for an automatic permanent move,
there will be an informal agreement in place allowing room for
discussions at least."
Some actual ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS for you. Demba Ba is NOT going to Arsenal. Chelsea see him as a rival, and therefore don't want to do business with The Gunners.
That's not the most crushing news in the world, with Giroud in good form, it's hard to see where Ba would fit in.
8:08 pm
Scouring the German news websites for any news from Munich, where
Mesut Ozil is apparently hammering out the details of his
contract/making us all wait.
Bild, a German newspaper which typifies the country's football-obsessed press, has put forward this question to its readers:
"Transfer-Hammer!
Mesut Özil wechselt von Real Madrid zu Arsenal London. Hat der
Nationalspieler die richtige Entscheidung getroffen?"
Roughly, this translates to: "Has Ozil made the right choice in moving from Real Madrid to Arsenal?"
At the moment, 67% of Bild readers have said 'yes', he has made the right choice.
I knew that German A-level would pay off one day.
7:41 pm
There was a rumour around 30 minutes ago that Spurs have put in a bid
for Demba Ba, providing some competition to Arsenal, who are trying to
sign him on loan.
But that has been denied, Spurs haven't made a bid for Demba Ba.
We
do have sources telling us that Chelsea will not be bringing anyone in
(no surprise) but that two players will be going out tonight.
7:38 pm
While we're waiting for Wenger and Ozil to get the deal done. How about this for some light relief:
Tottenham offered Emmanuel Adebayor as a straight swap for Fernando Torres. I love that. Chelsea said no #thfc#cfc
— Matt Law (@Matt_Law_SM) September 2, 2013
It would have been the most pointless signing of all time, one player who doesn't score for another player who doesn't score.
7:18 pm
Apparently, Emiliano Viviano was first on Arsenal's radar in 2010, when he was hailed as a penalty expert.
Obviously Wenger has decided that he's improved enough now to come and provide a threat to Szczesny's first team place.
It's
strange, Arsenal haven't always had a reputation (in recent years) as
being a team with a solid keeper, even Jens Lehmann was a bit, er, prone
to episodes of abnormal behaviour.
Here's Lehmann's greatest ever moment, throwing another player's shoe away. Classic Lehmann.
7:03 pm
To the tune of "Na na na na, hey hey, goodbye."
"Lano. Viviano. Hey, hey. Good save."
Just tapping my fingers on the desk waiting for Ozil to get into gear really.
The
intel is that a fee has been agreed, and so have personal terms, but he
hasn't signed on the dotted line. Let's hope that he isn't getting cold
feet.
6:41 pm
It's all gone a bit quiet. After what was an incredibly exciting
lunchtime and afternoon for Arsenal fans, some are now beginning to
pinch themselves and question if this is really happening.
Our intel is that it definitely is happening/may have already happened. It just hasn't been officially announced yet.
We want Mesut Ozil and WE WANT HIM NOW.
6:31 pm
It can't take this long to find a pen. Apparently Mesut Ozil has been
'unable' to sign for some reason. It sounds more likely that they're
just trying to pull the whole 'good things come to those who wait'
routine on Arsenal fans.
Maybe Arsene Wenger's just trying to get some pay-back on anyone who doubted him.
Sorry, Arsene. If you can just confirm the signing now, we can all move on from this.
6:13 pm
But while we wait for someone to break the radio silence at the
Emirates, here's a tweet from Paolo Bandini which won't get anyone's
pulses racing over Arsenal's proposed signing of Italian goalkeeper
Emiliano Viviano.
Still, it's not all bad news, as the former Inter Milan stopper has a name which rolls off the tongue very satisfyingly.
Go on, try it.
Viviano's
a lifelong Fiorentina fan, who was well liked, so fact they didn't take
option to keep him after last yr's loan says something
— Paolo Bandini (@Paolo_Bandini) September 2, 2013
6:10 pm
Still no news on Ozil from Arsenal or Real.
5:56 pm
Kahn he hack it?
The always entertaining ex-Germany 'keeper Oliver Kahn
has been having his say about Ozil's move to Arsenal on the German
paper Bild's website and he doesn't seem to be too convinced.
"Last
season the German only scored nine goals in the league, in a position
that was directly behind the main strikers," he's said.
"This was in a team that often scores over 100 league goals in a season.
"It's up for debate whether Ozil can hold his form in the Premier League and if his intricate style of play will work."
5:38 pm
Bendtner-watch
Sure, this Ozil thing is pretty exciting, but what aboutNicklas BendtnerI hear no one asking.
The
big Dane was spotted at Crystal Palace earlier today, but only stayed
for about 15 minutes, which probably means his meeting either went very
well or very badly.
Meanwhile, back at MirrorFootball HQ, our man
John Cross has been working his little cotton socks off today and here
he is chewing the fat over all things Arsenal with Rob Burnett.
Here's all your latest on Mesut Ozil, Demba Ba and Angel di Maria.
5:27 pm
It's not all Ozil today, as the future of another small, tricksy midfielder is up in the air today.
No right-thinking football fan wants to see Juan Mata stranded on the Chelsea bench all season, so could we see a late move for Chelsea's two-time player of the year?
Take a gander at our Jack Lang's live blog here to catch up with that and all the latest transfer news.
And he'll have the added bonus of seeing what zingers Jim White will be coming out with later.
5:21 pm
Ever wondered what an Arsenal shirt with Ozil and 11 on the back of it looks like?
Well today's your lucky day.
Sulia
5:14 pm
Man-in-the-know Raphael Honigstein has tweeted that Ozil's wages "will be close to 200k once add-ons etc are factored in."
This goes to show that Wenger wasn't lying when he told us all about Arsenal's new found riches at the start of the summer, which you can read here.
Meanwhile, our man Bearded Genius is also awaiting the news from the Emirates with bated breath.
I'm hearing the Ozil to Arsenal deal is DONE. All that's left is the crossing of the T's and dotting of the O's.
— Nooruddean (@BeardedGenius) September 1, 2013
4:52 pm
It's 4.50 and still no Ozil announcement yet.
Oh well, I'm sure
after waiting all summer that Gunners fans can hang on for another ten
minutes. In fact, just as I type that, Hayley McQueen on Sky Sports News
assures me that an announcement will be coming up by six o clock.
He's
a bit of an assist king is the bubble-eyed German. Last season he
bagged 24 for the Spanish giants to go along with the 25 he managed in
his first season at the Bernabeu. It does help when you have Cristiano
Ronaldo to finish them off for you though.
So it looks like
Arsenal have someone to make their bullets, but will they have someone
to slot them home? We should know all in six hours.
