Chelsea face £30m transfer raid for David Luiz by centre-half hungry Barcelona
Brazilian has topped Spanish champions' shopping list all summer after they failed with a bid to sign him a year ago
Barcelona are ready to make a last-ditch effort to buy Chelsea’s £40million-rated defender David Luiz.
Brazil star Luiz has been top of Barca’s wish-list all summer as they look to bring in a new centre-half.
The Spanish champions' president, Sandro Rosell, has made discreet enquiries - and they will follow up with a bid if given any encouragement.
Reports of rival interest from German and European champions Bayern Munich, although denied by the Bundesliga side, may have tempted Barca to go back for another attempt rather than risk missing out.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has insisted Luiz is part of his plans for his second spell in charge of the Stamford Bridge club and is not for sale.
But Barcelona are long-term admirers, having had an approach knocked back last summer.
They believe a huge offer may tempt Chelsea, but are unlikely to bid more than £30m.
Barcelona have even used Neymar as their secret weapon, as they hope their newly-signed superstar may be able to tempt national-team colleague Luiz.
Luiz signed a long-term deal at Chelsea last summer and has had personal assurances about his future from Mourinho.
