The Bayern Munich supremo believes the decision
to appoint the Spaniard as Jupp Heynckes' replacement proves he is the
superior coach
The Spaniard enjoyed a tense relationship with the former Real Madrid boss during their time together in the Spanish top flight and the war of words between the duo heated up again earlier this week when Mourinho questioned his nemesis' coaching abilities ahead of Friday's European Super Cup.
Nevertheless, Hoeness believes the decision to appoint Guardiola as Jupp Heynckes' replacement clearly shows who is the finer coach.
"Pep and Mourinho fought out an interesting battle in Spain over the course of several seasons and our coach came out victorious by a mile," Hoeness told Sport Bild.
"There's always a certain tension between them. I did not speak to Pep about Mourinho, but they are not the best of friends.
"It's a fascinating duel and adds something extra to Friday's game. I really like it. Guardiola on the one side with us and Mourinho in the other corner at a top team like Chelsea.
"I don't know whether they will shake hands and it isn't really important. Pep is our valued and respected coach. I don't even want to judge Mourinho.
"Fact is, though, that we didn't try to sign Mourinho, but went for Guardiola. I'd say that we made a pretty clear statement with that."
Friday's encounter in Prague kicks off at 20:45CET. ---------------------- goal.com
