Kevin-Prince Boateng: Bundesliga best league in the world

The midfielder says he is delighted to be back in Germany after joining Schalke from Milan on Friday, but his arrival does not mean Julian Draxler's exit, says Horst Heldt

Kevin-Prince Boateng hailed the German Bundesliga as "the best league in the world" after agreeing a deal to join Schalke.

The Ghana international was born and raised in Berlin but has also had spells in England, with Tottenham and Portsmouth, before joining AC Milan in 2010.

The 26-year-old completed his switch from tbe Serie A giants on Friday, and immediately turned on the charm offensive.

"I'm happy to be back in Germany, the best league in the world," Boateng said at his unveiling.

"Schalke first contacted me a year ago, and good things come to those who wait.

"On Wednesday, I gave AC Milan my farewell present [two goals against PSV] for the great three years I spent with them. Since Thursday, my head, brain, blood and everything was focused solely on Schalke.

"It's a great opportunity. This club have amazing fans and a ood young coach."

The Gelsenkirchen outfit have made an inauspicious start to the new Bundesliga season, picking up just one point from their opening three games and narrowly scraping past PAOK Salonika in their Champions League play-off.

But Boateng's arrival does not mean the club will be selling prized asset Julian Draxler.

The German international has been regularly linked with a move away from the Veltins Arena, but general manager Horst Heldt says Boateng has been signed to play alongside, and not instead of, Draxler.

Heldt said: "It is crazy to buy a strong player so another strong player can leave." ---------------- goal.com
