According to Sport24, former top-10 player Wojtek Fibak, who spent five years as the coach of eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl, was added to the ranks of Djokovic`s mentors after his collective disappointments in the Canadian Open and in Cincinnati.
The report further said that following Fibak`s appointment, Djokovic has cruised into the second round of the US Open by defeating Lithuania`s 112th-ranked Ricardas Berankis 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
Stating that he has worked well with Fibak during the preparations for the Flushing Meadows event, Djokovic praised Fibak, saying that the coach has an important role in the team as he has been a very good player and has huge experience in the sport, along with a big love and passion for the game.
According to Djokovic, the appointment of Fibak was a team decision as he never tries to make decisions on his own, adding that he and his coach Marian Vajda had agreed to bring Fibak as they thought that they might need that extra help and consultation.
Fibak reached a career-best 10th in the rankings in 1977 and won 15 career titles and reached the 1980 quarter-finals at the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon, the report added.
