Okagbare Battles For $40K Diamond League Prize
: Aug 29, 2013
Blessing Okagbare is one of the three long jumpers in contention
tonight for the USD$40,000 bonus and the Diamond Race Trophy on offer in
Zurich at the penultimate leg of the 14-leg of IAAF Diamond League
meetings.
The other two are USA’s Britney Reese who won the IAAF World Championships title in Moscow penultimate Sunday and England’s Shara Proctor who failed to shine in Russia.
Apart from the cash and trophy on offer, the Nigerian will also be itching to extracted her pound of flesh from Reese who denied her the chance to be crowned world champion in Moscow.
A win for Okagbare in the winner takes-all-battle tonight will make her the
first Nigerian athlete to be crowned champion of her event in IAAF’s highly lucrative one-day meetings after Falilat Ogunkoya who was crowned the IAAF Golden League winner in the 400m in 1998 in Moscow.
Okagbare is tied on 12 points with Reese following her wins at Lausanne, Switzerland and Monaco legs of the meetings as well as second place behind Reese in Doha, Qatar at the opening leg of the lucrative meetings. ------------------------ complete sports
