Pistorius' best friend Christo Menelaou said: "He was tickling her. They were lovers and also real friends."
He added: "He cries a lot and says over and over, 'I'm sorry'."
The picture has been used on the front cover of South Africa's You magazine.
Pistorius denies murdering Reeva, 29, at his home on Valentine’s Day.
The runner, due back in court on June 4, says he mistook her for a burglar.
