Amoo: Let's Respect Sidney Sam's Decision
Posted: May 30, 2013
Former senior
national team player, Fatai Amoo, says Nigeria has nothing much to lose
following the decision of Germany-based Sidney Sam to play for the
German national team saying the country is blessed with many talents and
his decision should be respected.
The Bayer Leverkusen of Germany winger on Tuesday dropped the bombshell that he never considered playing for Nigeria to put an end to Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi’s plan to add him to his team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“If Sam says he does not want to play for Nigeria, we should all respect his decision but one thing I know very well is that we are not going to lose anything from that because Nigeria is well blessed with many players and if we can go out there and get these players, we will definitely have a better team,” says the soccer tactician who is being considered for the national U-23 Eagles job.
“No doubt about that, he is a good player and he has proved that at club level, but I want to believe that the players that are available to us now can also do a good job.”
Keshi had said
repeatedly that the inclusion of the player to the Super Eagles will
help him have a better team but the African Cup of Nations winning coach
would have to make do with what he has and concentrate on how the
country will qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil.
The Super Eagles are expected to play Mexico national team tomorrow in an international friendly game scheduled for Houston, Texas, USA, and it is a match the Nigeria Football Federation believes will help the team to prepare well for the challenges ahead. ------------------ Complete Sports
