Arsene Wenger has been promised his biggest-ever Arsenal transfer pot – regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League today.
Wenger will not only be able to spend big on fees, but also has the freedom to increase the Gunners' current wage ceiling and take a gamble in the market.
That means Wenger can afford top targets Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic, but may also need Champions League football to lure them to the Emirates.
Arsenal go to Newcastle knowing they only have to match Tottenham’s result to secure a top-four place – and can still nick third spot off Chelsea.
Wenger said: “Let’s finish well today, and then we’ll give ourselves a good potential chance to win the championship next season by doing well in the transfer market.”
Even if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 16 years, Wenger will still get around £70million to spend.
Part of the money is already in the bank and Wenger’s budget has been topped up by Arsenal’s £150m Emirates deal.

The club are also set to confirm a new kit deal with Puma worth up to £170m.
Wenger will not be under pressure to sell any of his stars and will be boosted by finally getting high earners Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci off the wage bill.
“Last summer, and the year before, were very difficult,” said Wenger.
“Last year we had the Robin van Persie case and before that it was Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
“We started pre-season, on camps, with every time a player being half in or half out and that is not the best way mentally to prepare.”
With Manchester United, City and Chelsea all changing managers this summer, Wenger is aware Arsenal may be able to take advantage.
Wenger said: “You can have a little advantage on some teams.
“If Mourinho comes back it will not be a totally new experience, but, yes, if Pellegrini comes it can be difficult in a new country.
“It’s very difficult to predict how it will work.”
