By Jove! Fiorentina warn Arsenal top target Stevan Jovetic will cost them £30million
Even with a reported £70m in the kitty for summer signings, Real Madrid striker Higuain may have just become more attractive
Arsene Wenger has been quoted a staggering £30million for No.1 striker target Stevan Jovetic.
Arsenal boss Wenger, who is set for a big summer of spending, is understood to have held talks with the Montenegro striker's Italian club Fiorentina, while agents have also been trying to broker a deal for the 23-year-old.
But the Florence-based side are determined to hold out for a huge price for Jovetic, as they know their Serie A rivals Juventus are also keen on him.
Wenger has more than one iron in the fire, having met with representatives of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain after the Spanish giants circulated the Argentinian’s name as being available for transfer.
Arsenal are long-term admirers of Jovetic, who played against England two months ago - and is believed to be Wenger’s No.1 target.
But Fiorentina’s sky-high price may see the Gunners look more closely at Higuain, a clever striker who plays on the shoulder of defenders and is highly rated by Wenger.
The Arsenal manager has also publicly admitted his admiration for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, who is being linked with Manchester City, and the north Londoners have made it clear they are ready to spend big this close-season.
Prade, who will discuss the issue with the club’s president and owner Andrea Della Valle, said: “Is this his last game with us? Never say never.
“We will give a response only after a meeting between the player and Della Valle. Juventus still have not asked us about Jovetic.”
Apart from a striker, Arsenal’s other big priority for this summer is a new goalkeeper.
Asmir Begovic of Stoke is among their targets, while Barcelona's Victor Valdes is also interested and it is understood to have sounded out the Spanish contingent in Wenger's squad.
Brazil international Julio Cesar also remains a very real possibility.
Queens Park Rangers are keen to sell him following their relegation to the Championship, and it is believed his representatives have held preliminary talks with Arsenal.
