Trainer: Floyd will outsmart young Canelo

MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will use his ring smarts in order to defeat young Mexican champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez when they meet in the ring this September 14 in Las Vegas.
Mayweather’s trainer and father, Floyd Sr, told Tha Boxing Voice that while Alvarez may be the younger fighter, it won’t matter much against his son.
“Canelo’s a young man. My son is old enough to be Canelo’s father,” Floyd Sr. said. “He’s got a lot of youth in there, but it’s going to take more than youth.”
“He needs a brain in boxing. You’re going to have to get in his head, because right now, Floyd has smarted all of them. This guy isn’t as smart as my son,” he said.
Alvarez may also have an advantage in weight, as he is a naturally bigger fighter than Mayweather. The two camps came to a compromise and agreed on a 152-pound catchweight, something that Floyd Sr. is not a fan of.
“That’s not my idea, because if it was up to me, he’d be at 150 (pounds) and not 152. So far, all of the advantages are to Canelo,” Floyd Sr. said.
“The only thing he doesn’t have is the mind that Floyd has. At that night, the smart guy is going to win, and that’s Floyd,” he added.
Mayweather is fighting for the second time this year, after having beaten Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero via unanimous decision last May. -------------------------- CBNnews.com
