MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten American boxer Adrien “The Problem” Broner doesn’t want to fight pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. because he wants the older boxer to retire undefeated.
Broner, who calls Mayweather his “big brother,” idolizes the American superstar and has repeatedly shot down the idea of a fight between the two of them.
Even as he is moving up to welterweight, where Mayweather also competes, the 23-year-old Broner still refuses to consider a fight against his idol.
“My big brother got his legacy. I got mine,” Broner said in an interview with ESPN. “I want to see him retire undefeated. I don’t want to hand him a loss.”
Not even the idea of a huge payday can entice Broner.
“It ain’t ever about money against me and my brother,” he told The Boxing Voice in a separate interview. “Family? You can’t make me do it. I don’t care what amount of dollars is thrown at me.”
“It’s not about the money. If you’re talking about me fighting family, I don’t care what dollar is put on the table. It can be cash in my face, I don’t care. I’ll walk away,” he added.
Broner is more interested in emulating Mayweather than fighting him.
“He’s really a big brother, a mentor to me. I’ve been looking up to him since I was 12 years old. I wanna follow in his footsteps,” he said. --------------------------- CBNnews.com
