Official Bus Abandons Eagles After Training
Posted: Jun 04, 2013
Players and officials of the Super Eagles were abandoned after their training session on Tuesday inside the Moi International Sports Centre as the bus driver attached to the team failed to show up after their 30 minutes training session, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Eagles who had earlier rejected a bus provided by the hosts to take them to their hotel on arrival earlier on Tuesday had to return to their La Mada Hotel along Thika Road in batches via taxis, buses and a media van belonging to SuperSport, the ambassador's vehicle, as well as the Kenya Police chase car, as they squeezed in to fit ahead of Wednesday's crunch tie.
An irked John Ogu who revealed this Completesportsnigeria.com stated that the ill treatment metted out on the Super Eagles won't deter the AFCON champions from winning the crucial tie.
"It's a shame, but we won't be intimated," Ogu said. "We won't allow that derail our World Cup dream. We have a mission here, and we will achieve it by God's grace," the Academica of Portugal midfielder reiterated.
Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel also reacted on the missing bus:
“Where is the bus? Has it disappeared ?,” wondered the Chelsea midfielder as he pensively sat with his team mates.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria delegation also rejected 680 Hotel that had been reserved for them claiming it was too noisy.
Keshi also dismissed assertions that their long trip from Frankfurt would affect his team in Wednesday's encounter with Kenya.
“We are looking for a good result by God’s grace,” Keshi said after rounding off his training session.
“We will see what happens in the game,” he quipped.
“We have a lot of players, we don’t depend on one player. We depend on the team, if Victor is not here, if Emenike is not here, Nigeria are going to play,” he added.
With the FIFA Confederation Cup looming, Keshi insisted his focus at the moment was on picking maximum points against Kenya and Namibia, to bring their World Cup dream closer and they were under no strain to win the match.
“We have four teams in this group, so the pressure should be spread around, it’s everybody and it's all pressure around, Kenya want to win, Malawi want to win and Namibia want to win.” ------------------ Complete Sports
