Happy slapper! Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini wanted to 'punch' Samir Nasri after dazzling display against Newcastle
French star was superb against Toon – so how come he does that so rarely, ponders Bobby Manc...
Roberto Mancini joked he felt like punching Samir Nasri after watching his dazzling display against Newcastle.
Nasri was voted man of the match for his trickery against the Toon and the frustrated Mancini claims the French star should play like this more often for Manchester City.
He
recently singled out Nasri, accusing him of failing to deliver, and has
challenged him to maintain this high level for the rest of the campaign.
“I
would
like to give him a punch!” said the City boss. “Because a player like
him should play like this always, always, every game. Maybe one game he
can’t play well, but that’s it.
“I can’t understand why sometimes a player with his quality doesn’t play like this every game.”
Vincent
Kompany was also impressive in his first game for City after two months
out with a calf injury and he crowned his performance with the Blues’ third goal.
The
centre-half
refused to be drawn on Mancini’s attack on him for playing for Belgium
in midweek, but insisted he did everything right during his recovery.
“I’ve been waiting for some time to come back and play with the lads so I’m really happy,” said the City skipper.
“I have certainly put in the right amount of work. We have a brilliant medical staff at Manchester City and also with Belgium.
“In
that sense, I have done everything I need to do and more. You can blame
me for a mistake I make in a game, but this is different. You don’t choose to be injured.”
