Guests at one of football’s biggest galas were stunned last night when black comedian Reginald D Hunter repeatedly said “n*****”.
Hunter, 44, warned PFA Player of the Year Dinner attendees including FA boss David Bernstein he would be using the word “liberally” during his 10-minute turn.
The Have I Got News For You regular opened with a joke about Liverpool FC’s Luis Suarez, who was banned for racially abusing Man United’s Patrice Evra last season.
Mr Bernstein, who stripped Chelsea’s John Terry of the England captaincy for racially abusing QPR’s Anton Ferdinand, was seen shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
Prominent black football figures also in the room included ex-Chelsea player Paul Elliott, forced to quit the FA two months ago after using the N-word in a text.
PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor tweeted of Hunter’s appearance at the dinner: “He’s a comedian, isn’t he?”
When it came to the actual awards, Gareth Bale was the big winner picking up bother the Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year awards.
