The new Barcelona signing registered a goal and
an assist at the Castelao, but was in a modest mood, instead hailing the
impact of the supporters
Brazil forward Neymar was pleased to have given fans something to cheer during his side's 2-0 Confederations Cup victory over Mexico on Wednesday. The Barcelona forward was the star of the show for the Selecao, scoring one and assisting the other in sublime fashion, but refused to focus on his individual performance or any other personal accolades.
“We want to play well, win and make the fans happy,” Neymar told reporters after the match.
“Or team deserved this [win.] It doesn't matter who score, or who’s elected the top player of the match. We don’t long for this.”
The 21-year-old continued to heap praise on the home supporters and claimed that he was always fired up by the atmosphere on show when playing at the Castelao in Fortaleza.
“It’s always a wonderful experience [at the Castelao], [the fans] always give us confidence,” he added.
“It was a very emotional moment during the anthem, it gave us a boost to play better.”
Brazil sit atop Group A with six points and will conclude their group campaign against Italy at the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador on Saturday. -------------------- goal.com
