Luiz breaks nose in Brazil win over Mexico

The Chelsea star collapsed to the floor after a first-half collision and rose with blood pouring from his nose, but finished the match and helped his team to victory
David Luiz has confirmed he broke his nose during Brazil's Confederations Cup victory over Mexico.

Luiz collapsed to the floor after a first-half collision with team-mate Thiago Silva while attempting to clear a ball into the penalty area, and rose with blood pouring from his nose.

The Chelsea star finished the match - which Brazil won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Neymar and former Manchester City striker Jo - but afterwards confirmed the extent of his injury.

"Yes, my nose is broken, but that's part of the game," he told reporters. "Now I'll have to wait until the end of the competition and undergo a surgery to fix it."

Brazil were spurred to victory despite a slightly lacklustre performance by a raucous crowd in Fortaleza, and afterwards Luiz admitted the noise generated during the national anthems created a special moment.

"It was thrilling, it gave me the chills. It's one of the best sensations i've had in my life, to see the whole stadium singing with passion.

"We'll always make sure to give our best to these people, but it was an even bigger incentive to get on the pitch." ---------------------- goal.com
