Super Eagles players had a torrid time leaving Moi International Sports Center yesterday evening as Kenyan fans were falling over themselves to catch a close glimpse of their Nigerian soccer idols.
The Eagles showed some champions stuff by beating the Harambee Stars 1-0 to pulled clear at the top of their 2014 World Cup qualifying group. Ahmed Musa struck the only goal nine minutes from time to send the Super Eagles into a two-point lead at the summit of Group F after four matches.
The fans who thronged the stadium as early as 9.am to secure tickets defied security operatives who were armed to the teeth in their bid to touch players like Chelsea's midfield maestro John Mikel Obi, Onazi Ogenyi and goal scorer Ahmed Musa.
Indeed, large number of the fans decided to shield the bus carrying the team from any form of attack after they suspected that the Nigerian contingent may be pelted with stones by some irate fans who left the stadium in tears.
Nigeria will now regroup ahead of their next fixture against Namibia on June 12 to secure their spot in round three.
Wednesday's fixtures were brought forward by CAF due to Nigeria's involvement in the FIFA Confederations Cup which gets under way in Brazil on June 15. ---------------------- Complete Sports
