India`s Oscar-winning smiling Pinki to flip toss at Wimbledon finals

India`s Oscar-winning smiling Pinki to flip toss at Wimbledon finalsVaranasi (Uttar Pradesh): Pinki Sonkar, the main protagonist of Oscar winning movie Smile Pinki, is all set to travel from the obscure lanes of a village in northern India to the most coveted event in the English summer calendar - Wimbledon.

Commenting on these latest developments, the 11-year-old girl`s plastic surgeon, Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh shared his views with the mediapersons at Varanasi on Tuesday (June 18).

In a rare honour, Pinki will flip the toss coin at the gentlemen`s singles final this year on centre court.

"You (reporter) will be happy to know that this time Pinki has been selected to compete and toss at the men`s final of Wimbledon on 7th July," said Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh.

Before heading to England, Pinki is likely to travel to Madison Square Park in New York for a Wimbledon celebration with former tennis superstars Monica Seles and Jim Courier.

Pinki might also have a date with top players like Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Expressing her feelings, Pinki, said that she was excited for the trip.

"Last time I went abroad, I was happy. This time also I am excited about the trip," said the prodigal child actor Pinki.

She was earlier born with a congenital deformity called cleft lip.

She was once an outcast in her village in the region of Varanasi where deformities are not understood, and she was accepted into the community only after a surgery.

Her story took her to the blinding spotlight of the Oscar night in Los Angeles, after a US filmmaker made a documentary on her life.

The 39-minute poignant film, by US.-based filmmaker Megan Mylan, recounted how the girl, born into a poor family and with a cleft lip, is taken by a social worker to a hospital that provides free surgery to fix the deformity for thousands of children each year.
