HOW NIGERIA PLAYERS RATED AGAINST MEXICO
Posted: Jun 02, 2013
8 - Austin Ejide: He was outstanding in goal. He made about four daring saves for the Eagles. He controlled his defence.
8 - Efe Ambrose: He is one of shinning stars for Nigeria in this game. He was good defending, joined the attack when necessary and recovered well. He was also involved in the team’s second goal.
5 - Elderson: Echiejile: He defended poorly, but he joined attack well, set Akpala at goal and won the penalty after his goal-bound shot was handled inside the box.
6 - Godfrey Oboabona: Was always on hand to clear dangerous balls out of the box, won many aerial battles, but he forgot his man at some points in the match.
5 - Kenneth Omeruo: His partnership with Oboabona was not as it was at the AFCON. Did some clearances and timely marking, but he was caught napping occasionally.
4 - Sunday Mba: He generally struggled, losing possession unnecessarily around the vital area. He was the missing link in the midfield. Yet to reproduce his 2013 AFCON form.
7 - John Ogu: He started slowly, but later gathered momentum to form a good understanding with Onazi. He is a good marker and dribbler. His shooting was great and would claim the second goal even though it took a wicked deflection.
4 - Nnamdi Oduamadi: He can do a lot more, he was quiet for the better part of the game. He had one shot at goal that crashed against the post.
3 Joseph Akpala: He didn’t get into the game till he was replaced in the second half. He had only one attempt at goal. May be he is not back to full fitness as he only returned from a knee injury in April.
4 - Brown Ideye: He troubled the Mexico defence with his strength and runs, but he ought to have done a lot more. He scored a good penalty.
7 - Ogenyi Onazi: Another great Eagles performer in this game. He too started badly, losing balls with ease, but when he settled down, he took over control of the midfield for Eagles. He needs to work on accuracy of his shots, though.
5 - Vincent Enyeama: He continued from where Ejide stopped, making some saves, his timing was wrong and that allowed Chicharito to get the second goal.
3 - Anthony Ujah: He played the entire second half and was not effective. May be he needs more games to prove himself.
4 - Obinna Nwachukwu: Another substitute, he did his best. Jittery at first, but later did some timely tackles and marking. He could only get better.
5 - Babatunde Michael: Made some decent runs and won some free kicks for Eagles. The young winger though did not get a clear sight on goal. ------------------------- Complete Sports
