Paris: Roger Federer recovered from being two sets down to beat Gilles Simon 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinal of French Open on Sunday.

Federer easily pocketed the first set 6-1 but afterwards the home favourite charged back to take the next two. The Swiss then had to win the remaining two or bow out of the event which would have been his earliest exit from a Grand Slam event in nine years.

However, that wasn’t the case as he came back to win the fourth round encounter.

Federer fell to the ground while chasing a shot in the second set after twisting his right foot.

"I didn`t hurt myself or anything. But maybe I did lose that touch of confidence for a little bit, and then I was out of the match there for a bit," Federer was quoted as saying.

This was the 31-year-old’s 58th win at Roland Garros and 900th tour win.
