JOE HART
– A heroic performance from the Manchester City star stopped a certain
drubbing. First half saves from Neymar, Filipe Luis, Hulk and Oscar
underpinned an immense display. 9*
Boss cat: Joe Hart of England saves at the feet of Filipe Luis
Laurence Griffiths
GLEN JOHNSON - Like the rest of England’s
defenders was overrun. One superb intervention to nick Oscar cross away
from Fred and Hulk stopped a certain goal. 6 GARY CAHILL
– The Stamford Bridge centre half is used to facing a couple of
Brazilians at Chelsea - but this was a yellow tidal wave that just kept
on coming. Stayed solid though. 6 PHIL JAGIELKA – Had his work cut out from the start but the gritty Everton defender stood up to be counted showing bravery and character. 6 LEIGHTON BAINES
– Preferred over Ashley Cole but limped off before half time. After
being tortured by Oscar and Danny Alves it’s odds on he wasn’t too
gutted. 5 PHIL JONES – The youngster tipped for
greatness by Fergie must wonder if he’ll ever play at centre-back for
club and country. At this level no way a midfielder. 5 MICHAEL CARRICK
– Found it tough to operate the deep-lying play-maker role for England
with Brazil stars constantly robbing him in possession. 5 THEO WALCOTT
– Flickered with a couple of darting direct runs and had England’s only
chance of the first half but the Arsenal winger was fed on scraps. 6 JAMES MILNER
– Included for his work-rate and trying to stop raiding Brazilian
defender Danny Alves. Plenty of effort but made no impression on the
game. 6 FRANK LAMPARD – Might have scored six
goals in his last five internationals but the Chelsea veteran had no
chance of improving on that as he fought a rearguard action. 5 WAYNE ROONEY
– Isolated, starved of supply and working as a lone striker – the
Manchester United star had a thankless task. Wasn't getting a sniff of
goal, but refused to give up and when it arrived took his chance
superbly. 7 Ashley Cole - (For Baines, 33) Fared better than Baines and helped steady defence. 6 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - (For Johnson, 61) Will never forget his wonderful equaliser. 7 Jack Rodwell - (For Walcott, 84) Came on late to add some steel as England came under siege. 6
