Gareth Bale is at the centre of a bitter row between Real Madrid and the Spanish media over his back injury.
Leading daily Marca has claimed £86million Bale, the world’s most expensive player, has a slipped disc and needs surgery.
Real issued a statement on Saturday denying the claim. The La Liga giants have insisted that although Bale has a “small chronic disc bulge” it is “extremely common among football players.”
Marca, however, have quoted a doctor to back up their claim that the injury is more serious than the club are letting on.
Dr Avelino Parajon said: “If Real Madrid have signed Gareth Bale knowing about this protrusion, they have committed an error.”
Bale scored on his debut for Real , away to Villarreal, but has played only twice since.
