Jose Mourinho denies Roman Abramovich has ordered him to play fantasy football at Chelsea
The Special One says it's not so much about style but more about mentality and philosophy as he bids to win the league again

Jose Mourinho insists he is not under orders to play fantasy football at Chelsea.
And Mourinho has warned that any attempt to copy Barcelona or Real Madrid would be doomed to failure.
Despite
the success Mourinho achieved during his first spell as Chelsea boss, there were repeated claims owner Roman Abramovich was not satisfied with the style of football.
Abramovich is known to be a great admirer of Barcelona.
He attempted to appoint the Spanish club’s former manager Pep Guardiola and reshaped the Chelsea squad around the Barca model.
“The owner never spoke to me about this,” said Mourinho. “The owner always told me the same line that I am saying.
“We
want to play well, we want to play good football, we want to win
matches, we want to play every match to win, we want to be considered an
attacking team.

“That’s
what I want, that’s what he wants, that’s what I believe every fan
wants. So, it’s not about style. I think it’s more about mentality, more
about philosophy, it’s more about approach.
“But
the qualities of our strikers, they are not really the people to play
with the ball at their feet, they are not players to drop back and go
into midfield like Messi, Benzema, Rooney or Eto’o . They are
different. So, we have to play with the qualities of the players.”
Mourinho
highlighted striker Fernando Torres to make his point. He added: “When
we see Torres with his back to goal, surrounded by two or three
opponents, we know that he is not going to produce a piece of magic.
“We want the team not to learn how to play with him, but to improve how they play with him.
“Torres’ game is impossible to remodel. But we want to adapt the team and teach the team how best to use his qualities.
“We need to learn and support his game.
“Fernando is working very hard in training, we are happy with him.”

Mourinho then turned his attention to more cerebral matters.
He said: “Our philosophy is clear. We don’t want to
be defensive for 89 minutes, wait for a chance, score a goal, win 1-0
and go home happy.
“We must try to be dominant every game, knowing that, when we play against good teams, we have to defend.
“And we have to be defensive sometimes, not because we want to be, but because the opponent pushes us back.
“For
that, I want my team to know how to react. Some teams have an attacking
philosophy and, when they become defensive they are in big trouble and collapse. And you
have some of those teams in England.”
Mourinho also insists it is impossible to clone a foreign team and expect it to succeed in the Premier League.
“My
Chelsea 2004-06, wouldn’t win the Scudetto,” insisted Mourinho. “My
Inter wouldn’t win the Premier League, my Chelsea wouldn’t win La Liga,
my Real Madrid wouldn’t win the Premier League, my Real Madrid wouldn’t
win the Scudetto.
“This is about football culture, the culture of the opponents and the different characteristics of every league.
“So,
when people see a certain kind of football [in a different country] and
think that kind of football can succeed in the Premier League they are
wrong.”
