Did Southampton sell £25million Gareth Bale share to Tottenham for a few quid and a spare keeper?

The Saints reportedly owned a 25 per cent slice of Bale's price in what could be the biggest transfer EVER... but chipped it in when they were potless!

Sign in haste, repent at your leisure - and so far it's been a summer rich in small-print in the transfer market, most famously with Luis Suarez and Arsenal tripping over the clause that never was.
Now Tottenham's Gareth Bale and his proposed world record transfer to Real Madrid has breathed new life into an old tale about a clause that definitely existed once. Southampton must wish it still did.
When Saints flogged Bale to Spurs in 2007 for £5million they sensibly included a clump of add-ons related to the youngster's future achievements - thought to potentially total another £5m - PLUS a canny sell-on clause, according to reports.
That entitled Southampton to somewhere between 10 and 25 per cent of any future transfer fee when Bale left White Hart Lane. Small beer at one time, but not any more.
It could mean as much as £25million to Southampton were Real Madrid to hand Spurs £100m for Bale.
Upstairs for thinking: Daniel Levy has saved Spurs a giant fistful of sweet sweet cash
