Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho laments Fernando Torres injury after convincing win in Bucharest
"We played good football with intelligence and maturity," said the Portuguese manager after his side's 4-0 win
Fernando Torres' knee injury took the shine off Chelsea's resurgent
Champions League display against Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday.
Within hours of the Blues celebrating Torres' escape from the expected extra FA ban for scratching Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, the Spaniard lasted just 11 minutes of their Romanian romp.
Two from Ramires, an own goal by Daniel Georgievski and a late strike by Frank Lampard saw the Blues bounce back from their shock defeat by Basel with a 4-0 win in Romania.
But Torres will have a scan on the ligaments in his left knee today with Chelsea fearing he might be out for at least a month - a potentially longer absence than his ban would have meant.
Mourinho said: "The bad news is the injury.
"The doctor is very confident it is not a big injury like we had with Marco van Ginkel, but it's something with his knee, his ligaments, and we have to wait for the scans.
"Fernando knows that he doesn't play against Norwich on Sunday and will not go to join the (Spanish) national team.
"He knows that he has 15 days until the next match he can play, against Cardiff. Let's see the scan. If the injury is for 15 days I think he'll be fine.
"The problem is if it's more time. It's a pity for the guy because, physically, he was in a very good moment. He played fantastically against Tottenham and deserved to start this game. So it's a pity, but that's football. Let's see the scan."
Mourinho was delighted by his side's dominant display, adding: "I put the players under a lot of pressure for this game, I felt that - and they coped well with that pressure.
"They accepted the pressure and used it as a motivation, not a factor in showing no confidence. The boys were very good, very strong, and played very well.
"We were very good for all 90 minutes and I was happy with every one of my players. We played a complete game.
"I felt we could have scored more, too. It looks like everything was offensive but we defended very well. We were very solid, kept controlling the game and did not give them the initiative."
Mourinho also told Sky Sports that he was confident that his side would secure progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
"I think we are going to qualify," he said. "Today's result is important because if we don't win we are under pressure.
"We have to control the situation and make points against Schalke and then beat Basel and Steaua."
"It doesn't surprise me," said Mourinho, who offered another thinly-veiled barb at Vertonghen.
"The FA represents English football and in England they never punish on emotion. They punish when you don't respect the integrity of game by simulating."

Mourinho also defended the Football Association's decision not to retrospectively punish Torres after he manhandled Jan Vertonghen during the weekend's 1-1 draw at Tottenham."It doesn't surprise me," said Mourinho, who offered another thinly-veiled barb at Vertonghen.
