David Beckham has hailed Roy Keane as his best captain - a week after Sir Alex Ferguson savaged both his former Manchester United stars in a new book.
Fergie is scathing about Keane in his autobiography, claiming he HAD to boot the "frightening" Irishman out of Old Trafford because of his verbal attacks on his team-mates.
But Beckham has now said: “For me, Roy Keane is the best captain I’ve ever played under. He had two career-threatening injuries and he set the example for us young kids.”
Ferguson also claims in his book that Beckham lost his focus because of the pop-star world he inhabited with Spice Girl wife Victoria - and thought he had become bigger than his boss at United.
However, Beckham, who is aiming to set up a team in Miami to play in Major League Soccer, not only refused to criticise Fergie in return, but joked: “He was one of the first in my phone book to contact as the manager!”

Former England captain Beckham told a Q&A conducted on Facebook to promote his new book: “I’m not going to sit here and be negative about a man, who gave me a chance to play for my boyhood team, who I always dreamt of playing for.
“He gave me the chance to do that. He believed in me and believed in the rest of the young lads, who came through this with us.
“All joking aside, at the end of the day I won’t be negative about Alex Ferguson because he gave me the chance to live my dream.”
Beckham did reject Fergie’s claim of a “flirtation between Real Madrid and David’s camp” before his move to the Bernabeu in 2003, insisting he never wanted to leave his beloved Red Devils.
The ex-midfielder said he could not even watch Manchester United for two years after his transfer because he was so upset about moving on.
“When I joined Manchester United, I never wanted to leave them. When they told me they were going to sell me was the first time I spoke to Real Madrid," he expained.
“I knew my dream was over and I had to speak to another team. I couldn’t watch United for two years, I was that gutted. It was that difficult to leave.”
Beckham, 38, also revealed he has struggled to come to terms with retirement since hanging up his boots with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.

“I had a moment a few months ago where I found it difficult to come to terms with not playing any more,” he said.
“A moment in Paris I was on the plane working on a new project and I suddenly felt that jump from being a footballer into business. I’ve been busier in the last five months than ever before.
“I have that work ethic. Whether it’s achieving success as a footballer and winning trophies like before, or being success in business like now.”
