Schweinsteiger aims to emulate Barcelona

The 29-year-old believes die Roten can reach the heights of the Blaugrana under the guidance of their new coach

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger believes the European champions can emulate Barcelona in the coming years, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

The 29-year-old won the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal with the Bavarians last term and says the current crop of stars at Allianz Arena have the potential to dominate like the Blaugrana have done in recent times.

"We feel we can match Barcelona's achievements, and if not we will try to get as close as possible to matching them," he told Image.

"We have facets to our play that the coach (Guardiola) has brought with him from Barcelona, and we feel that will make us a formidable opponent for anyone. His inside knowledge will also make it easier to play against them."

Schweinsteiger also spoke about his own form, admitting that he's still struggling for consistency since returning from an ankle injury last month.

"The first games back after surgery were very difficult," he said.

"The ankle is moving a lot better now, however. I am still not 100 per cent but i'm getting there.

"I feel like my level is fluctuating more than when i'm fully fit, but i'm sure over time that will change." ---------------- goal.com
