The nightmare could deepen for David Moyes this week when Sir Alex Ferguson’s book comes out.
It is the autobiography that all of football has been waiting for, simply because Fergie has so much to tell us from his three decades as boss of Manchester United.
More specifically, with Moyes having failed to bring in a star name, it will be interesting to see whether Sir Alex reveals the players he would have signed had he not retired at the end of last season.
It will be interesting, too, to see what he says about Wayne Rooney, who has been United’s best player by a mile this season.
Because, having won just three of their last eight home games and with 13 points dropped from their eight matches so far this season, United are in real trouble.
I'm starting to feel sorry for David as the job is beginning to look like a poisoned chalice.
His players are cruising.
When you look at Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs, even Everton and Southampton, the injection of fresh blood has given those clubs a fresh impetus.
But you would not say the arrival of Marouane Fellaini has done that at United.
So it's no surprise the fans are unhappy.
Moyes needed to move earlier for his targets.
Why did he leave it so late to go for Spurs' Gareth Bale and Ander Herrera at Bilbao?

All of those questions will come back to haunt him with the side struggling as they are.
The team is treading water right now and although Sir Alex has an affinity with United, he has never held back on giving his own unique take on any situation.
Roy Keane might get both barrels after the breakdown in their relationship.
Also Brian Kidd, who left for Blackburn.
Fergie saw that as a real slight.
To be fair to Kiddo he improved his own financial position, but it didn’t go down well.
Fergie's old enemy Rafa Benitez is another who might not be too enamoured with what is said.
Although the Scot has a good relationship with Jose Mourinho, I'd be interested to see what is written about that night when Porto drew at Old Trafford to send United out of the Champions League, and the Special One did his run down the touchline.
We've got a big week of European action to come, but I've a feeling the man we will be talking about most is the man who has his feet up.
