Liverpool's Martin Skrtel is being eyed for a transfer back to Zenit St Petersburg.. again
Russians who sold the central defender to the Reds five years ago were linked with him last January and in the summer window
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is back on Zenit St Petersburg's radar, writes Declan Taylor.
The Russian club have set aside around £16million to land a new central defender in the New Year - and old boy Skrtel is one of the names on their list.
The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Zenit in 2008 and became a mainstay in the Anfield giants' defence.
But his future looked uncertain when he was dropped during the second half of last season - and then watched manager Brendan Rodgers sign three central defenders in the summer transfer window.
However, he has forced his way back into the first-team picture and has made six appearances this season.
Zenit tried to take him back to St Petersburg this summer and could make a fresh attempt to prise him away after Christmas.
