Arsene Wenger accused his team of being "naive and immature" after conceding a late goal to be condemned to a 2-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund.
The Frenchman also claimed Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski could have been sent off for elbowing Laurent Koscielny before his 82nd winner.
Gunners boss Wenger said: "We put ourselves on the back foot with the first goal, and were a bit naïve with the second goal. If you look at the number of saves our goalkeeper had to make and we conceded two goals, then we can only look at ourselves.
"We were not mature enough. If you cannot win a game then don't lose it. In the second half we were on top, but made it difficult by giving them the second goal.
"It looked like Lewandowksi could have been sent off. I haven't seen it well, honestly, and the referee was in a much better situation. I will have to look at it again."

Arsenal also had an injury worry as Jack Wilshere went off after hurting his right ankle and needed an ice pack on it after the game.
Wilshere said: "I jarred it when I was going through. For five or ten minutes it was painful, then I ran it off. But it made sense to put ice on it. I've done that before, even before I had surgery. It is just one of those things.
"Obviously I will have treatment tomorrow because it is still a bit swollen, but I should be all right for the weekend."
Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp apologised for ruining Wenger's 64th birthday .
"I'm sorry about this, really. But it's a problem of the date. I have a birthday in June when there are no football matches, only holiday," said Klopp, who insisted Lewandowski did not deserve to see red.
"What I saw from the stands, it was just another encounter between Robert Lewandowski and Laurent Koscielny. The referee saw it. All of these decisions should be about injury to the other player and not when a player is trying to make more space. It was no red card, no lucky situation."
