Amir Khan will not fight again this year as his camp try to finalise a superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Khan's mooted December 7 clash with IBF welterweight champ Devon Alexander in New York has been shelved as the Englishman instead chases Mayweather.
It is believed American superstar Mayweather is interested in fighting Khan, because he sees the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight king as big box office.
May 3 is the most likely date for the superfight.
Despite London's Wembley Stadium being suggested, Las Vegas' MGM Grand is the most likely venue because of the fortune the casino's owners will be prepared to offer to stage the contest.
Khan, 26, could stand to pocket a career-best purse of over £6million if the fight is made.
The Bolton fighter had started training with Virgil Hunter in San Francisco for a fight with Alexander, and it is understood he will remain in camp.
However, the Athens Olympics silver medallist is highly unlikely to fight again if a deal with Mayweather can be made.
This would mean he would have been out of the ring for 13 months since beating Julio Diaz in April if he did face the world's pound-for-pound king in May next year.
