Tomas Rosicky has admitted he is playing every game like it his last, writes John Cross in Saitama.
Rosicky, 32, is into the final year of his contract, sweating on his future and has been plagued by injuries during his seven years at Arsenal.
Czech
midfielder Rosicky goes into this season hoping to get a new deal which
will help finish his career at Arsenal club but his attitude shows he
is taking nothing for granted.
Rosicky said: “I’m trying to play
every game like it’s going to be my last. Everyone can see that and I’ll
continue to play like that.
“This is my last season. It’s not in
the back of my mind that I’m playing for a new deal. I’m just trying to
give my best for my team and my team-mates.
“I’m enjoying playing
football again and we will see how it goes. But I’m not in a rush. I’ve
said many times already that I would love to finish my career at
Arsenal.
“The big part is the experience I have. I’ve been through
happy times, bad times and everything. I’m 32 years old so I have a lot
of stuff behind me already. All these tough games are the most
interesting ones. You want to play in them and I’m no different in that.
“If
you look at the last two seasons and what I was able to produce I think
I played a big part in us coming back for a top four finish. Obviously
for me the challenge is to make the pre-season which will help me for
the whole season and contribute straight from the first game.”
Rosicky
missed 18 months at Arsenal because of injury, sat out the start of
last season after surgery and yet feels that lost time may end up
helping him extend his career.
But Rosicky is convinced Arsenal
are in better shape to maintain a title challenge this season and will
be an even stronger proposition if they can bring in big-names with the club currently chasing Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
Rosicky
added: “I don’t know what I’d look like if I wasn’t injured for 18
months on the trot. But obviously it’s an experience first of all you
don’t want to be there, but you have to take the positives out of it, if
there are any. Ready to go: Tomas Rosicky has been in fine form this pre-season

"Last season I didn’t start because I had surgery on my
Achilles but the season before I had quite an injury free season if you
look at the records.
“As you can see when I started the games
towards the end of the season, I think I started nine games and we won
eight and drew the other one. Obviously it’s my goal to start the season
fit and help the team. I feel I have a lot to give to this team.
“So
I know I’m capable of staying injury free for most part of the season.
Obviously if you are going to need surgery, it’s tough after that. But
I’m alright now and I will give my best to this club to fight for the
title.
“It’s vital to have a good mixture of youth and I don’t
want to say the veterans but the experienced guys. I think they changed a
lot since I came here.
“We have more experience than we used to
and a big thing for me is that this is the first time since I’m here
that almost no-one from the important guys has left.
“This is very
important for the chemistry and the team state. Obviously if we can get
one or two new players it would be great. It would be interesting for
us to go into the new season.
“This is a good group of boys. You
could see at the end of last season we had the chemistry, which is very
underrated in today’s football. We have it. We didn’t lose anyone so
it’s very positive for us to go into the next season.”
