Van Bronckhorst tips Netherlands for World Cup glory

The 38-year-old believes the Oranje can atone for their failure to win the tournament four years ago by going all the way in 2014
Former Netherlands defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes his nation are capable of winning World Cup 2014.

The Dutch, who were beaten finalists to Spain in the 2010, have collected maximum points from their qualification fixtures so far, with Louis van Gaal's men boasting six victories in Group D.

And Van Bronckhorst, who called time on his illustrious career following the defeat to la Roja three years ago, believes the current crop of Oranje stars have what it takes to improve on their runners-up finish last time out.

He told Fifa.com: "They [the Netherlands] are well on their way to getting to Brazil and it’s good for the team to be involved again in the World Cup.

"It’s going to be hard, playing Brazil and Spain, especially with Brazil having home advantage.

"But the Netherlands are definitely one of the teams who can win it, but I think there are eight teams who can win the World Cup.

"It’s just a matter of having a bit of luck on the day. Holland always have a chance, but we have to see how the form is."

The 38-year-old, who has since taken up a role as assistant to Ronald Koeman at Feyenoord, won 106 caps for the national side throughout a 14-year international career.  ----------------------- goal.com
