Newcastle are set to land PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet with an improved £2.25m bid.
The Dutch club knocked back Toon’s opening £2m offer for the Holland Under-21 stopper, who has 12 months left on his current deal.
Boss Alan Pardew wants 22-year-old Zoet as cover for first choice Tim Krul and back-up Rob Elliot after the summer departure of veteran Steve Harper.
PSV will use the cash to fund a move to bring Tottenham’s 32-year-old Brazilian keeper Heurelho Gomes back to the club.
