Flying winger went over the top of hoarding and needed oxygen from medics before returning to Spurs' win over Hull
Andros Townsend needed oxygen after a horror fall into a photographers’ pit at White Hart Lane.
The England winger was dazed and sprained his right wrist after the plunge six minutes from the end of Tottenham’s win over Hull.
The England winger was dazed and sprained his right wrist after the plunge six minutes from the end of Tottenham’s win over Hull.
Townsend
toppled over the perimeter advertising board, at full tilt, trying to
deliver a cross and needed four minutes of treatment before emerging
with his wrist strapped.
Tottenham manager Andre
Villas-Boas admitted he feared for his star’s safety before Townsend
returned – to huge cheers from the 36,080 crowd.
AVB said: “There’s a massive hole for the camera crews and photographers. Andros fell into that and twisted his wrist.
“The medical team assure me he will be OK, but he was unconscious when they arrived to treat him.”
After
£26million striker Roberto Soldado’s dubious 80th-minute penalty,
awarded for handball against Hull’s Ahmed Elmohamady, Villas-Boas
accused his own supporters of generating a “tense” atmosphere.
He could now face a backlash in Wednesday’s sequel against the Tigers in the Capital One Cup – despite the north Londoners keeping their 12th clean sheet in 15 games this season.
Angry
Hull boss Steve Bruce said of the penalty: “At Everton last week we had
wrong decisions given against us and it’s happened here. They can’t
wait to give it.”
