Arsenal ready to offload Gervinho as Wenger eyes new Ashley Williams bid
Gunners set to accept Roma bid for Ivory Coast forward and re-ignite interest in Swansea centre-back Ashley Williams
Arsene Wenger is ready to sell Arsenal misfit Gervinho to Roma - and may consider going back for Swansea defender Ashley Williams, writes John Cross in Japan.
Italian giants Roma have made a £6.5million bid for Gervinho and are ready to give him a four-year contract.
That would represent a major drop on the £11million Arsenal paid for the Ivory Coast forward but Wenger believes Gervinho needs a fresh start after a patchy two years.
Arsenal may push for a better offer especially as there has been interest from other clubs in Italy, Russia and Turkey.
Wenger is also considering a new move for Welsh stopper Williams to ease his defensive injury problems.
Williams is keen but Swansea appeared to have priced him out of a switch by putting a £10million price on his head.
Swansea may now let him go for £8.5million if it is to a top club. Arsenal are short of cover with Thomas Vermaelen and Nacho Monreal both out injured for the start of the season.
Arsenal’s scouts have been impressed for his defensive and leadership qualities.
