Dortmund derby is electrifying, says Keller

The 42-year-old believes Saturday's clash remains the most eagerly-anticipated of the Bundesliga calendar and is desperate to secure victory for the fans

Schalke coach Jens Keller is eagerly anticipating this weekend's Ruhr derby with Borussia Dortmund, claiming the fixtures "electrifies" supporters across German football.

The bitter rivals go head-to-head at Veltins Arena on Saturday with eight points separating the sides after just nine rounds of fixtures in the Bundesliga, although Schalke won both games last season 2-1.

Despite the gap to Jurgen Klopp's charges, Keller is relishing the prospect of facing BVB once more in what he believes to be the most eagerly-anticipated game in the German calendar.

"There is no other game in Germany which electrifies the masses as much as this derby," the 42-year-old told a press conference.

"Every player knows what is at stake. A derby win means as much to the players as it does to the fans."

Schalke enter the match off the back of impressive Bundesliga wins over Augsburg and Eintracht Braunschweig, but were humbled in midweek by Chelsea as they lost 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen. ------------------- goal.com
