How Nigeria's World Cup opponents performed in friendlies

Here's a round up of the performances of teams in World Cup Group F after their friendly matches on March 5
Nigeria played a goalless draw against Mexico in their World Cup warm up match in Atlanta's Georgia Dome on Thursday morning.

The game was dominated by the agile saves of the goalkeepers who kept the strikers at bay on both sides.

The Super Eagles' World Cup Group F opponents were not much luckier in their own warm up matches.

Argentina were held to a goalless draw by Romania in Bucarest as they failed to unlock the hosts with their array of attacking talent.

Lionel Messi fell ill and vomited on the pitch as the game started.

Albiceleste could have lost the game but were helped by a referee decision that cancelled Romania's strike. Goal's match report went thus: "Maxim fired home at the back post after collecting a superb cross from Alexandru Matel 10 minutes before half-time, only for referee Gianluca Rocchi to rule the effort out after his assistant inexplicably flagged for an infringement."

Iran were unlucky in Tehran as they were beaten 2-1 at home by West Africans Guinea. AC Milan's Kevin Constant opened scoring in the 3rd minute before Ibrahima Traore doubled the lead three minutes later.

Iran got a consolation goal from Standard Liege striker Reza Ghoochannejhad ten minutes into the second half.

Carlos Quieroz was left fuming as his side failed to capitalise on home advantage to draw against the West Africans. He would be wondering how they will cope in neutral Brazil when the World Cup starts.

World Cup debutants Bosnia-Herzegovina fell to former African champions Egypt 2-0 at the Tivoli Stadium in Innsbruck, Austria.

Al Ahly's Mohamed Nagy Gedo and Chelsea's Mohamed Salah scored the goals for the Pharaohs as Manchester City's Edin Dzeko could not put his side in the game.

Nigeria will open their World Cup campaign against Iran before taking on Bosnia and then Argentina in their final group game.

Could these friendlies be a pointer to how the teams will fare in Brazil? There's still a long way to go before the Mundial starts.

Group F Friendly Results
Mexico 0-0 Nigeria
Romania 0-0 Argentina
Iran 1-2 Guinea
Bosnia Herzegovina 0-2 Egypt ----------------- goal.com
