Heart attack survivor Fabrice Muamba is in a cash dispute with former club Bolton and has called their board a 'bunch of idiots'.
Muamba, 25, claims the Championship club still owe him a portion of a signing-on fee agreed when he joined them in 2008.
On Tuesday night he posted a number of Twitter messages criticising the club.
He wrote: "I love the fans but people in the board room (are a) bunch of idiots".
He also said there were now "too many average players" in the team.
The messages were deleted the following morning.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside told The Sun: "We paid Fabrice 15, 16 months when it should have been a year, so he got more than he was contractually entitled to.
"The comments are very strange when I think back to holding his hand in hospital."
