Arsenal's Per Mertesacker is in a race to be fit for Germany's friendly against England at Wembley on Tuesday night.
The 29-year-old missed the Gunners' trip to Manchester United on Sunday through sickness and was replaced by Thomas Vermaelen, as Arsene Wenger's side slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
Germany coach Joachim Low has revealed Mertesacker will miss his country's tie against Italy in Milan on Friday but is battling to play some part against the The Three Lions four days later.
He told reporters: "Per will remain in London and will join us when we are there for the England game on November 19."
Mertesacker's Arsenal team-mate Mesut Ozil will be fit for both games after recovering from a flu virus, despite suggestions he would miss out.
However, striker Miroslav Klose, who scored against England in Germany's 4-1 win at the 2010 World Cup, will not feature in either friendly after picking up a shoulder injury in Lazio's draw with Parma in the Serie A at the weekend.
Low added: "The current situation is Klose will not be able to play in the two games. He injured a previous injury and will be out for two to three weeks."
The Germans' line is now likely to be led by Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller or Max Kruse of Borussia Monchengladbach.
