Eden Hazard missed Chelsea training on Monday because he forgot his passport on his way back from France. The £32million Blues winger was dropped for the club's Champions League win over Schalke on Wednesday night.
Boss Jose Mourinho confirmed he had disciplined the 22-year-old for not making training after a trip to see his old team-mates back in Lille.
MirrorFootball
now understands Hazard DID get to the Eurostar in time, but had to dash
back to where he had been staying because he had forgotten his
passport.
In doing so, he missed his scheduled train back to London and eventually turned up at the club's Cobham HQ after lunch.
Team-mate
Gary Cahill insisted Mourinho's man-management skills will ensure that
the player will remain onside despite being disciplined.
Chelsea -
who host West Brom on Saturday - are bidding to bounce back from their
Premier League defeat at Newcastle last weekend.
Cahill said: "They had their chat one-to-one and the situation is dealt with.
"Eden
Hazard is a terrific player and we obviously need him in the squad and
available, so of course we look forward to having him back.
“I
think the manager makes decisions and he does not have to explain every
single one. But the camp is a happy one – especially when we are winning
games.
"And the fact that players know exactly where they stand
but there are no long-term grudges. I suppose you could say that is what
people talk about as the Mourinho effect.”
United front: Branislav Ivanovic voiced his support for Jose Mourinho
Martin Rose
Team-mate Branislav Ivanovic added: "We are all together and our squad is together. We win together or we lose together.
"Always
within the team the manager makes different choices for different games
but we try to be together from the first day to the last day and try to
win the trophies.
“The manager is trying to change the mentality of the team and trying to turn us to go in a good way.
"I
think we have to play every game as a final with big motivation and it
was a difficult game for us at Newcastle after two big games, one in the
league and one in the cup.
"Of course some players turn and want to show different things but it is about the team and winning a lot of games."
