Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey scores 11th of season to secure incredible Champions League win
The Welshman's second-half header hands Arsene Wenger's side another away success in a season that keeps getting better and better
Aaron Ramsey helped the Gunners pull off one of their greatest Champions League victories as he wrote yet another chapter into the story of the season.
Quite simply Ramsey has taken everyone's breath away this season as he has been transformed into a world beater who last night stunned Borussia Dortmund in their own backyard.
Just when Arsenal seemed to be in danger of being completely overwhelmed, up popped Ramsey with his 11th goal of the season to silence Dortmund's notoriously loud fans.
It was more smash-and-grab this time as Arsenal rode their luck and showed a heroic rearguard action to keep out Borussia Dortmund.
But no-one will be complaining at the Emirates after yet another remarkable result kept Arsenal's - and Ramsey's - bandwagon rolling.
They simply never know when they are beaten as they held firm in the face of wave after wave of Dortmund pressure as the yellow shirts were waved forward by the fantastic atmosphere created by the 65,000-plus fans in the Westfalenstadion.
Per Mertesacker, on his return to his native Germany, held the Arsenal defence together while Wojciech Szczesny pulled off a couple of outstanding saves.
And when Arsenal took the lead in the 62nd minute, you thought it was merely a matter of time before Dortmund made a breakthrough as they laid siege to the visitors' goal.
Ironically, it was a German who kick started Arsenal's breakthrough as they have now scored in nine consecutive games in Germany.
ReutersMesut Ozil, who had almost gone missing in the first half, suddenly came to life with a perfect cross from the right to pick out Olivier Giroud at the back post.
French striker Giroud, who had ploughed a lone and thankless furrow up front, headed back across goal and in dived Ramsey to put his head where it hurts and force home from point blank range.
It sent the Arsenal fans wild as they drowned out Dortmund's supporters as the visitors set about gaining revenge for defeat to the Germans at the Emirates a fortnight ago.
Suddenly, Arsenal - who had been left almost down and out against the ropes - were transformed as Ramsey went desperately close again just four minutes later from another superb piece of play by Giroud.
Ramsey found himself unmarked at the back post but his shot was blocked by Borussia Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller.
Mertesacker twice went close as he saw a shot cleared off the line as suddenly a rather tame and one-sided contest came to life.
Ozil was like a different player. Almost anonymous in the first half, the £42.5m midfielder was finding space and passes as Arsenal went in search of another.
And it just makes you think if Ozil is worth that sort of money then how much can Ramsey - surely the most in-form midfielder in Europe - be valued at now?
His 11 goals have helped Arsenal scale the heights in the Premier League and now pull off an incredible result against last year's Champions League runners-up.
No-one can now say that Arsenal have not played anyone decent either. They are beginning to look the real deal.
Borussia Dortmund will go away thinking and wondering how on earth they did not win the game from their domination of the opening hour.
Robert Lewandowski, Neven Subotic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all went close while Szczesny pulled off terrific saves from Marco Reus and Jakub Blaszczykowski.
Arsenal certainly had to ride their luck but when your luck and defiance can see you pull off great results and nights like this then you begin to think anything is possible.
Suddenly the doubters might just start to believe. Arsenal look genuine contenders both at home and abroad.
