Simeone: Falcao suitors no surprise

Simeone: Falcao suitors no surprise

By Graeme Young
The Atletico Madrid coach is not overly worried about potential interest in his Colombian hitman and targets a win on Sunday against Granada

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is expecting to be kept busy when suitors come calling for his prized asset Radamel Falcao.

Falcao, who has scored 64 goals in 83 games for los Colchoneros, will be a wanted man in the summer with city rivals Real Madrid and Manchester City interested in his signature.

But the Argentine boss is unperturbed by the admiring glances directed towards his star striker as he has seen it all before.

"Last year, at this point, was the same, there is no novelty. As a major player, it doesn't surprise me that he is attracting interest from big clubs, it's natural," Simeone said to Marca.

The popular Argentine, who has rejuvenated his team since his arrival in December 2011, is focused on Atletico finishing the season strongly, starting with Granada this weekend.

“Sunday is a big game for our future," he continued. "If we win on Sunday, it is good for the club, for the fans and for the players. It is important to prepare and play like we have done for the year.

“The game yesterday of Malaga [who lost 3-2 to Dortmund conceding twice in injury time] is a sign that things are not finalised until the whistle goes."

Third-placed Atletico find themselves 11 points clear in the automatic Champions League places, with Real Sociedad their nearest challengers. ------------- goal.com
