The Nigerian striker returned to action on Sunday but was injured and could be out for a lengthy spell
Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike came off the bench on Sunday and helped Spartak Moscow beat Anzhi Makhachkala 2-0 but the Nigerian top scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations is reportedly injured and could be out for another lengthy period.
This is coming after a two-month layoff due to a muscular injury he suffered at the last Nations Cup in the semi-final match against Mali.
He replaced Artem Dzyuba in the 54th minute and was brought down for the penalty that gave Spartak their second goal.
Emenike had raced towards a long ball but was brought down by Vladimir Gabulov, Anzhi goalkeeper who was sent off for the foul.
Team mate and midfielder, Dmitri Kombarov said as good as the win was, it had been sullied with the injury to their Nigerian striker.
"As far as it is serious, we will find out [Monday] or the day after, I do not know exactly when it will be examined,” Kombarov told the clubs official site.
Though speculations are rife that Emenike may need another operation on a suspected knee ligament injury that will take between two and three months for a full recovery.
If the injury is confirmed, Emenike will miss the two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Namibia and also the Fifa Confederations Cup in June. ---------------------- goal.com
