El Shaarawy focused on table not goals

The Italy international has only struck
once for club and country since the end of January, but insists that his
primary focus is on helping the Rossoneri finish second
AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy
is doing his best not to "obsess" over his current goal drought, and
says he is focusing on his side's league position above any personal
targets.Only Edinson Cavani and Antonio Di Natale have struck more times in Serie A this season, but El Shaarawy has netted just once since the end of January.
However, while the goals have dried up for the Italy international, Milan have shot up the standings.
And the 20-year-old would rather bask in the Rossoneri's resurgence, rather than dwell on his individual concerns.
"Right now the important thing is the table," El Shaarawy told Milan Channel. "Then, if the goals arrive, even better.
"Everyone is telling me not to obsess and just think about my performance for the team, but my personal objective is to reach 20 goals and I hope to get back scoring soon.
"However, the most important thing now is to try to get the second place, which remains our goal."
Milan can move to within a point of second-placed Napoli with a win over Walter Mazzarri's men at San Siro on Sunday, but they could have been in an even more advantageous position had they not been held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Fiorentina last weekend.
"There's still regret at not having managed to hold on to the 2-0 lead," the attacker confessed. "In the second half we got a little too confident.
"But we are still there, in third place, and we are thinking about the next match against Napoli, which is very difficult.
"They are a very good team with great players and we will have to take to the field with great determination."
El Shaarawy, who has been capped six times by the Azzurri, has scored 16 goals in Serie A this season. --------- goal.com
