Garcia has given Roma the right mentality, says De Rossi

The Italy international was thrilled with his side's fighting quality after they secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Napoli in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg
Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi hailed Rudi Garcia for bringing a new mentality to the side after their 3-2 win over Napoli on Wednesday.

The Giallorossi were 2-0 up at half-time in their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg thanks to Gervinho and Kevin Strootman, but an own goal from Morgan De Sanctis and a Dries Mertens strike levelled matters in the second half.

Roma snatched a late winner through Gervinho to secure an important first-leg lead, and De Rossi was quick to praise the fighting spirit instilled by head coach Garcia since his summer arrival.

"It is a great advert for sport and wonderful to play against such an open team. We must compliment Napoli, as they have a lot of quality and kept fighting," the midfielder told Rai Sport after the match.

"It wasn't easy to concede a goal like that straight after the restart, but after the equaliser we replied very well and won a very difficult game.

"To win 3-2 is very important, certainly compared to the possibility of taking a draw to Naples.

"We've always had the technique and the quality over the last two years, but we missed the right mentality. That is something the coach has given us and the players have helped it to grow so that we can play games like this.

"We can make mistakes, but now we get up and fight back."

The second leg of the semi-final will be held at the San Paolo on February 12. ------------- goal.com
