The final 32 teams in the 2013-14 Europa League
have been confirmed, with the draw for the knockout round set to take
place on Monday in Nyon.The 24 group winners and runners-up are joined by Champions League nearly men Napoli, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Basel, Ajax, Juventus, Porto and Viktoria Plzen - the eight third-placed teams from the group stages.
Valencia clinched top spot by some distance in Group A, while Swansea progressed in second despite a 1-0 defeat at St Gallen in their final game.
Ludogorets Razgrad dropped only two points en route to a comfortable qualification from Group B, while Chornomorets Odesa edged into the next round ahead of PSV after winning 1-0 away to the Dutch side on Thursday.
Group C was decided long before the final matchday, with Red Bull Salzburg romping to the summit after winning all six of their group games, as Esbjerg took the runners-up berth, eight points ahead of third-placed Elfsborg.
Rubin Kazan had already been confirmed as Group D winners before Thursday’s final round of games, which saw Maribor dramatically advance at the expense of Wigan and Zulte Waregem, thanks to a 2-1 comeback win against the Championship outfit.
Fiorentina and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk had long since wrapped up the top two spots in Group E, though the Italians cemented their status as group winners with a nervy 2-1 triumph over the Ukrainians on Thursday.
It was more of the same in Group F, as Eintracht Frankfurt and Maccabi Tel Aviv had already secured their place in the next round as winners and runners-up respectively, and both sides won their final game against Apoel Nicosia and Bordeaux for good measure.
Rapid Vienna missed the chance to overtake Dynamo Kiev and join Genk in the knockout phase, losing 3-1 at the Ukrainians, who progressed in second from Group G.
Sevilla finished their Group H campaign unbeaten and in first place with a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Freiburg, whose slim chances of qualification were ended as Slovan Liberec entered the next round.
Lyon and Betis had an easy outing on Thursday, with both sides already assured of first and second respectively in Group I. The French side won at Vitoria Guimaraes, but Betis were held to a stalemate at home to Rijeka.
Lazio missed a huge chance to leapfrog Trabzonspor at the top of Group J, labouring to a goalless draw against the Turkish side in Rome that consigned them to a runners-up spot.
Roberto Soldado’s hat trick saw Tottenham demolish Anzhi 4-1 on Thursday as Spurs ended Group K with six wins from six, though the Russians were already assured of second place at the start of play.
Finally, an entertaining final matchday in Group L saw a straight shoot-out between Paok and AZ to settle first place. The Dutch side clinched a 2-2 draw in Greece, which saw them pinch top spot on their head-to-head record.
